Something I have pondered more than normal recently is my desire to try new things, have new experiences that are just for me. Since the age of nineteen I have been a mother and as it should be putting my children first but they are growing up and having their own adventures in life. I have worked as hard as possible in the home and jobs I have had and still do. My children will always need me and will always come before any desire I have but I know they would support me in any venture I endeavour.

The struggle I have like many is time, working full time and having a home to run doesn’t leave much time to have the adventures I so wish to have. So what shall I do? One thing I won’t do is give up trying.

Let’s break it down and start slowly grabbing every little opportunity we can. A late evening walk on the beach, a trip to the forest, visiting a local landmark you have wanted to see. It is amazing to start with big ideas but can be disheartening when it becomes unachievable at the time so let’s start small and work up to that big dream.

One thing on my list is a hike, not a long walk but a planned hike. Just me, my camera, and backpack. Next on the list is Italy. My daughter has been many times and always tells me “get your passport Mum and let’s go”. So next is try and do this soon hopefully before Christmas.

It is easy to feel like you are being selfish wanting to do things to make you happy, always putting obstacles in your own way. I think especially now after having a recent health scare it is important to realise we have one life you don’t get to do this again. I never want to die with regrets. The truth is if you don’t make yourself happy this will in turn make the people around you unhappy as you will be filled with regrets and unfulfillment and even resentment.

Lets write the next chapter in this thing we call life. Let’s start small this week and do something that fills your soul with happiness. I plan to do one small thing week after week till I get the chance to move ever close to my big dreams and adventures. I hope you come along for the journey.
